Out of nearly 500 applications from 98 countries, the six distinguished mentors for the fifth edition of Forecast—chef Manu Buffara (Brazil), curator Koyo Kouoh (Cameroon), writer and researcher Evgeny Morozov (Belarus), visual artist and theater director Markus Öhrn (Sweden), musician Du Yun (China), and photographer and filmmaker Tobias Zielony (Germany)—have each selected three proposals.
All 18 nominated projects will benefit from mentoring through the end of October. This updated format is regarded not merely as a substitute to the originally planned Forecast Forum in Berlin—which had to be called off due to the coronavirus—but as an alternative form of exchange and support.
Forecast’s call for proposals closed before the pandemic brought everyday life to a halt. Yet, interestingly, the selected projects share a focus on community, communalities, and communication—topics that seem even more relevant now.
The mentors will remotely accompany the projects and choose one mentee each on November 1. Those six mentees’ projects will be further accompanied to completion, and presented at the Forecast Festival in April 2021, at radialsystem in Berlin.
