Sonic Revolutions: Vibrations from the Levant
“Music or broadly sound-based acts may be geared in political movements and become both expressions and a means of political commitment.”
Kalliopi Tsipni-Kolaza
Kalliopi Tsipni-Kolaza has conceived an exhibition in the form of an album: Sonic Revolutions: Vibrations from the Levant will present the practices of sound artists exploring issues of spatial justice, collective memory and history through the detour of popular culture.
The “album”’s tracks take various forms of artistic expression and investigation: Track 1 consists of Stones Gods People, a performance that Joe Namy originally meant to be performed in the Garden of Forgiveness in Beirut. Track 2 is comprised of three video works by Basma Alsharif enabling experiences beyond the delineations of place, language and story. Kalliopi Tsipni-Kolaza is a Greek curator based in London and Athens.
