Natalia Carrus' proposed project Packarting Plastic is an experimental art project which seeks to raise consciousness for a sustainable shift in attitudes toward consumption that can satisfy actors at every level, from the consumer to the industrial. Every decade, global production of plastic doubles, and there is no end in sight. We have no clue how much plastic we might produce or use in the following years.
“Three years ago when diving in a plastic soup of microparticules near Elba, I realized I could make my contribution as an artist in exploring how deep we could and would be involved in maintaining sustainable attitudes in choosing products and recycling.“
By transforming packaging into art objects, Natalia Carrus intends to evoke a subliminal appreciation of upcycling packaging and disrupt the cycle of producing more and more waste. She will create impactful pieces as mock products to place on supermarket shelfs. In a short film, she will document customer interaction with her objects and investigate whether art can influence customer choice.
Natalia Carrus describes herself as deeply occupied with contemporary social phenomena, full of mutations and dysfunctions, which she translates into ironic and poetic pieces. She is especially interested in the enormous mass of information we absorb every day and how it changes our perception of reality. In her paintings and sculptures, she uses metaphors to exalt the alteration of our perception, and focuses on the ambiguity of information dissemination.
