This first public screening offers an exclusive opportunity to encounter the work as it emerges from an intensive process of experimentation and exchange between Subramaniam and his mentor, artist and filmmaker Keren Cytter.
The short film (approx. 20 minutes) traces a man’s last day in Bengaluru, a city where he has lived for years but never quite managed to call home. Before leaving for good, he borrows a ritual from a neighborhood glass workshop: carrying a small mirror to the places and people he is about to lose, hoping the glass might hold what he cannot. Blurring documentary and fiction, the film reflects on memory, belonging, displacement, and the elusive nature of home.
The premiere also brings the wider Forecast community together for a special live program: following the screening, Subramaniam and Cytter will be joined in conversation by Forecast alumni artist Bjørn Melhus (Mentor, 2016-17), choreographer Gustavo Gomes (Mentee, 2022-23), and curator and theorist Renan Laru-an (Mentee, 2016-17). Together, they will reflect on the making of the work, the mentorship process, and the ways artistic ideas can evolve through sustained exchange and collaboration.
The film remains on view at the Berlinische Galerie throughout the weekend, giving audiences additional opportunities to discover the work.
